Friday, October 30 — Halloween eve. Carson Street is already packed, but the doors move faster.
Saturday, October 31 — Halloween on a Saturday. This is the biggest night the South Side sees all year.

What to Wear in Pittsburgh on Halloween

The rooftop is exposed. Avalon Rooftop is great and it is cold — factor that in.
Layer under the costume. You're walking a public street all night, not ducking between adjacent doors.
Shoes that handle a half mile. Carson Street sidewalks are old and uneven in places.
Pittsburgh is a group-costume city. The crowd goes surprisingly hard on coordinated looks — a solid squad costume gets real recognition here.
How to Do the Night Right
Walk it in one direction. Start at Urban Tap on the 1200 block and work east, or start at LINX and work back. Bouncing back and forth wastes the whole advantage of a single-street crawl.
The 1500–1600 blocks are the dense middle. Four venues within a block — a good place to settle in when the group needs to regroup.
